This series of workshops is perfect for complete novices and beginning gardeners who are eager to gain some skills, and turn their thumbs a deeper shade of green.

Workshops begin in APRIL and will be held in Mar Vista (near the 405 and Venice Blvd).

Workshop 1: Starting from Scratch: Soil
April 10th– 10am-4pm $50
Starting a garden can be the most intimidating part of gardening. We’ll join together to build a garden from scratch-starting with soil. Learn three different types of soil preparation. Experience the differences amongst sheet mulching, double digging, and simple soil amending. We’ll conduct a semi-scientific experiment over the course of the series to see which methods each of us prefer and which the plants prefer.

Workshop 2: Micro Garden: Seed Propagation
April 17th-2 hours, $26 including materials.
Learn how to successfully germinate seeds for late spring planting, and how to transplant the tender seedlings.

Workshop 3: Plants Need Friends Too
May 8th-3 hours, $30.
Plant an organic vegetable garden. Learn which plants are friends, which are enemies and how to ensure the health of the soil through conscientious gardening practices.

Workshop 4: Water is Life: Drip Irrigation
May 15th-3 hours, $30.
Learn the easy way to install water-conserving drip irrigation at home from a faucet, or existing sprinkler system.

Workshop 5: Learning to Share
June 12th -2 hours, $25 including materials.
Learn and put into practice general garden maintenance and organic methods of pest control.

Workshop 6: Decomposition is Hot
July 10th -2 hours, $30 including materials.
Learn about the processes of composting and vermiculture (worm powered compost). Create a worm compost of your very own.

Workshop 7: Harvest Party
August 14th-2 hours, $20.
Harvest and enjoy the bounty of your hard earned work. Plan your fall and winter garden.
