Maintenance

We visit vegetable and kitchen gardens every other week. Maintenance involves weeding, pest control as needed, trellising and trimming as needed, replacing plants, and making sure any automatic irrigation systems are working properly. We bill according to an hourly rate, and will bill you for any new materials that go into your garden. Sometimes maintenance will be very quick, and other times it will be long, such as at the beginning of a new season when things need to be replanted.
Edible landscapes may need different levels of maintenance. Once established, a garden with lots of perennial plants may only need to be maintained monthly or even seasonally. We will come up with a schedule appropriate to your garden and use the same hourly billing system.
If you would like to learn how to care for the garden yourself you are welcome to be present during maintenance. Note that teaching you will take more time and therefore make your maintenance more expensive: however if in the end you can take on maintenance yourself it’s ultimately a good investment for you.
Vegetables are sensitive plants and conditions in a garden can change very quickly. Your garden will do much better if you visit it regularly and make note of any problems you suspect. Problems can arise between our visits and we can tend to them better if we are notified ahead of time.
We cannot maintain every garden we install. If your garden is outside of a certain geographic range or we are all booked as far as maintenance we will tell you at the time of your assessment that we will not be able to do maintenance.
